We Value our Family CarersThetford Forest

Mutually Supportive Home-School Links

We recognise and value the important role played by parents/carers and as such, we encourage parents/carers to play an active role in their child or young person's education and ensure mutually supportive home-school links. We always want parents/carers to feel welcome at our School.

You can expect us to:-

  • value your child as an individual
  • provide a stimulating and motivating home and school environment
  • encourage your child to reach their full potential
  • provide a safe, happy and caring environment for living and learning
  • ensure close communication with you
  • respect confidentiality and be non-judgemental
  • recognise the important role you play in your child's life
  • provide you with regular information about your child's progress

We encourage parents and carers to:-

  • work in partnership with us
  • share your concerns with us
  • be honest and open
  • attend Progress Meetings and Annual Reviews about your child
  • work with us on communication and behavioural strategies

We continually strive to keep our parents/carers informed and involved.

We achieve this by providing the following:

  • A detailed summary of each pupil's activities sent home at the end of each week. We produce a daily sheet allowing parents/carers to share in their child's activities, their achievements and reassurance about their sleeping, eating and care routines
  • Access to our multidisciplinary Team for support and advice on issues you may be experiencing at home. Our Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapist are always happy to help and support parents/carers
  • Attendance at both formal and informal review meetings where parents/carers can look at their child or young person's work and discuss progress and targets
  • Making our school policies freely available to parents/carers at any time (available from the school office)
  • Making parents/carers part of their child's school life by offering our Parent's House which is available to parents/carers who wish to stay at School. Our large house can accommodate the whole family and provides a warm and cosy welcome after your journey to school and a chance to have fun with your child during your visit
